Provision of Healthful Living
Healthful living is an aspect of the School
Health Program which pertains to the provision of the
wholesome, safe, and healthful environment; and the
establishment of wholesome interpersonal relationship
favorable to physical, social, and mental health.
A. Provide an environment conducive to optimum
growth learning and health.
1. Classroom should have adequate
space and should have lighting and Ventilation.
2. Pupils should be able to transfer from one
building to another without being exposed to the
elements. Provide covered walkways and waiting sheds.
3. There should be proper drainage of grounds to
prevent flooding and to eliminate stagnant water, which
could serve as a breeding place for mosquitoes.
4. There should be freedom from noise so
students could concentrate on studies.
5. Environment should be clean.
Waste cans should be provided in strategic places so
students could throw the litter into these receptacles.
Comfort rooms should have adequate water supply so that
cleanliness can be maintained. Janitorial personnel
should clean these rooms regularly during the day to
prevent bad odor.
B. Hygienically organized school
day:
a.
School day should be planned so as not to allow
fatigue on the part of both students and teachers.
Variety of activities
Provide period of relaxation after intense mental work.
Place periods of intense
concentration and abstract, thoughts during the early
part of the day.
Length of periods should be suited to grade and age of
students.
Adequate interval between subjects and relaxation.

Children should be allowed to develop socially by
providing time for interaction with their peers.
c.
Allow children to make decisions and develop a
healthy attitude towards law and order within the
classroom, school and community.
d.
Inculcate high ideals and good habits of
conduct-a product of reading, discussing, visual aids
and other teachings.
e.
Availability of safe water. For this purpose,
water should for microorganisms yearly to test for
portability.
f.
There should be adequate drinking facilities with
the faucet and Individual cup.

foot washing facilities in place where students get
their feet dirty
C. Referrals:
1. The Health Services Department acts as a
liaison between public and private hospitals and the
school refers patients who have to avail of hospital
services.
2. It also acts a link to civic and charitable
organization that may be needed by the patient. We also
have a linkage with the City Health Department to avail
of laboratory facilities and for referral esp. of TB
cases. The City Health is just across the street from
WNU.
D. Control of Communicable Diseases:
1. Daily classroom observation for
teachers.
2. Isolation of suspected cases including
confinement.
3. Specific Health instruction on methods of
prevention.
