West Negros University has three existing libraries; the
College Main Library and the Graduate Studies Library
which is located at the Main Campus along Burgos Street,
Bacolod City and the Integrated School Library which is
found in Eroreco Campus where the Integrated School is
located.
The College Main Library is found in the 2nd floor of
the Engineering building at the Main Campus. The Library
housed the Office of the Director of Libraries and all
sections of the library such as Periodical Section,
Filipiniana Section, General Reference, Circulation,
Engineering/Maritime, Reserve and Technical Section
while the Graduate Studies Library is found at the first
floor of the College of Information and Communication
Technology. The Main Library has a total floor area of
1,826 square meters and a seating capacity of 1,110
students at one time, the Integrated School Library has
a total floor area 131.6 square meters and a seating
capacity of 56 students at one time and the Graduate
Studies Library has a total floor area of 207.94 square
meters and a total sitting capacity of 150 students at
one time.
The library has eight (8) full time professional
librarians, one (1) secretary, one (1) technician who is
assigned at GGA-AV Center, one (1) encoder, one (1)
Internet Service In-charge and forty (40) student
assistants.
The library has a total book collection of 65,511 titles
and 79,282 volumes and 91 titles of subscribed local and
foreign journals and magazines both general interests
and technical titles. The collection include print and
non-print as well as electronic materials ready to use
for students. It provides basic and current books in all
subject fields. Aside from the basic book collection, it
has periodicals, audio-visual (AV) materials, thesis and
dissertations and others. Other collections available
are the Filipiniana and Negrosiana collections.
As a center of the educative process, the library needs
to be continually improved to carry out the goals and
objectives of the institution it serves. And, in order
to provide best services to its clientele, the library
not just limits their collections to print formats but
also to electronic resources found in the Internet.
The Library has 17 computer units that can be found
inside the main library and 95 computer units with
Internet
connections at the Internet Service Center to cater the
needs of the student population. The Internet Service
Center has a total floor area of 351.14 square meters
and it is situated at the third floor of the College of
Information and Communication Technology.
To provide better services to its clientele, the library
is open from 8:00AM to 7:00PM from Mondays to Fridays
with no noon-break. It is also open on Saturdays from
8:00AM to 5:00PM and Sundays 8:00 - 12:00NN, 1:00 -
5:00PM to serve the Graduate students when there
scheduled classes and also for the Nursing Students who
have their classes.
The library uses an open shelf access to serve the
educational and informational needs of its clientele and
uses Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) system in
organizing and classifying its collections. The library
sees to it that it can meet the needs and demands of the
students in their choice of resource materials for
learning and can offer quality service.
With the all-out support from the administration, the
library reiterates its commitment to be responsive to
the needs of the members of the academic community.
With the present technological advancement of libraries
and the emerging and evolving library technologies, the
library is starting to computerize/automate its
operation in order to provide better services to its
clientele through an in house library program.
