A
dream for West Negros University (WNU) has come true
with the launching of the Hospitality Management Kitchen
and Dining Facility in its newly constructed East Wing
Building.
The
laun ching was completed during the celebration of the
University’s 62nd Foundation Anniversary last
February 12, 2010 and was attended by local officials,
personalities, restaurateurs, connoisseur and friends
who were presented with a taste of sumptuous dishes
prepared by HM students.
Dr.
Suzette Lilian A. Agustin, University president
expressed her appreciation to those whose presence
graced the historical event not only for WNU but to the
community as well.
Hospitality management,
according to WNU’s HM consultant Mr. Guido Nijssen in an
earlier interview underscored that HM has become one of
the most lucrative careers worldwide for the past years.
WNU’s curriculum has advanced through these changes to
address the pressing need of the industry.
He
added that the state-of-the-art facilities will be a
training venue for them especially in the
internationally accepted style of working, specifically
on the technical aspects, basic preparation of making
stocks, sauces, and international dishes, with the
knowledge and international skills based on classical
kitchen; furthermore, among others.
Through the ultra-modern facilities that WNU provides
its students, a better edge is given to them on how to
be the best cook, waiter, chefs and sous-chefs, among
others.
It
is not only the facilities that are given much
attention; WNU is also providing trainings and seminars
to its professors through another
internationally-acclaimed consultant from the PUM-Netherlands
Senior Expert, Jan Versteegen
Mr.
Versteegen, a known expert on international cuisine and
restaurant management is in WNU for a month long
intensive training for the faculty emphasizing on the
following area: Basic Technique of the Kitchen,
Improvisation and Love of the product you are serving
and the people around
He
said that it is a holistic approach towards achieving
the objective of the course with the right attitude. He
also advised these to the teachers and emphasized that
“learn it first before talking about complicated
things.”
In
addition, the senior expert said that teachers and
students must learn about their neighboring countries
not only their cuisines or foods but also their culture,
people, traditions that is far different from the
Philippines in order to gain more knowledge.
