Added: June 29, 2009
Twenty-eigh t
students from the College of Maritime Studies (CMS)
received a certificate of completion during the 2nd
Seafaring-Catering-Stewarding TESDA Program last June
26, 2009 at GGA Audio-Visual Center with the theme “Appropriate
Competencies for Better Job Opportunities.”
Mrs. Yolanda C. Porschwitz,
TESDA provincial director was the guest speaker during
the ceremony. She congratulated the parents of the
graduates for sending their children to WNU which
produces competent and world class workers with values
that are usually sought after by employers.
“Filipino seafarers are
in-demand and much-preferred workers by the maritime
industry abroad since they are well-educated, fluent in
the English language and has excellent work ethics,”
Porschwitz emphasized adding that the certificate the
students availed gave them the passport for the various
job opportunities in other countries despite the
economic crisis.
She further underscored that
about 2 million Filipino workers are needed abroad in
the next three years.
With their newly-acquired
skills and competencies, the graduates are now equipped
to address the world’s needs in terms of labor and
employment; however, she urged the students to remain
humble and God-fearing in every endeavor and to imbibe a
culture of learning and never settle for mediocrity.
Meanwhile, Capt. Eugenio
Ynion, CMS dean assured the students and their parents
for WNU’s continuous support.
Moreover, OIC-Office of the
Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Cleo Grace T.
Hinaut challenged the graduates to desire to be the best
that they can be and consider that the time of crisis is
the time of opportunities.
Special awards for
leadership, loyalty and merit, among others were also
given to deserving students sponsored by WG&A Superferry.
