Integrated
School Holds UN and Cultural Day Celebration
Added: November 03, 2008
West
Negros University-Integrated School joined hands with the world in the observance of the
United Nation’s 63rd year, last October 24,
2008 with the theme: Environmental Sustainability: an
Essential Tool for Poverty Alleviation.
Led by Mario R. Gabuya, school principal, students from
pre-elementary to high school levels donned in their
favorite country’s native costume paraded the campus
ground. A cornucopia of talents was seen that day when
all grade and year levels performed in front of
delighted parents and guests.
Other activities were; essay writing contest, quiz bee and
slogan making.
This year
the United Nations has set four targets to facilitate
environmental stability among which are the following:
Integrate the principles of sustainable development into
country policies and programs and reverse the loss of
environmental resources; Reduce biodiversity loss,
achieving a significant reduction in the rate of loss by
2010; Cut in half the proportion of the population
without sustainable access to safe drinking water and
basic sanitation and finally; improve the lives of at
least 100 million slum dwellers by 2020. The rapid
expansion of cities complicates reaching this target.
The theme encourages us to learn, discuss and act to
support policies and initiatives to attain these targets
ensuring long-term environmental stability.
Meanwhile, the Pre-elementary department held a Cultural
Presentation, October 29, 2008 at the GGA-Audio Visual
Center.
Led by pre-elementary
adviser Mrs. Mary Joy Barrientos, Nursery, Kinder and
Preparatory pupils amused the audience with their antics
in song and dance performances.*(rrm/aipro)
